In my college days I stayed in touch with a few close friends from B-CC, including Warren Asher and Simon Schuchat. But because I left for college after only two years at B-CC, my high school memories are vague. If you see me and remember me, please say hello and help me fill in the blanks!
As for how I spent the past 50 years: I collected a number of undergrad and grad degrees in philosophy. It led to over 30 years in medical education, teaching at medical schools in New York, Florida, and Texas. My most important contribution was to propose that the field of clinical ethics is best taught in the clinical years (during the clerkships) rather than in the first two years alongside the basic sciences. I was also very active in the development of clinical ethics consultation, a hospital based practice. These days I am semi-retired but teach as an adjunct at GW medical school, in the GW undergrad Honors program, and at Georgetown.
I am married to an environmentalist, Elizabeth, and we have three pretty cool kids. Each is named for a great philosopher. We have a Hume, a Spinoza, and a Russell. I am very proud to say they are all ethically and politically active. I suspect that value was nurtured by my time at B-CC (though not particularly encouraged by the school administration).
